In Waterford, police said they were notified on Thursday, Oct. 31, that two children, under 18 years old, had each received a sealed package of a “gummy” style candy, said Waterford Police Lt. Timothy Silva.
The packaging material stated each bag contained 10 gummies with a corresponding THC level of 10 mg per gummy. Only two packages were recovered, Silva said.
The parents inspected the candy and came across the packages. No one ingested the candies and no injuries have been reported, he said.
The candy was obtained in the area of Gallup Lane in Waterford. Officers have completed a neighborhood canvas and the investigation is on-going.
Silva said it is unknown if the candy was intentionally handed out or was an unintentional oversight by the owner.
Anyone with information about the candy is asked to contact the WPD at 860-442-9451.
In Waterbury, police arrested a man after the department received two complaints that razor blades were found in the candy bags of children who were trick or treating in the Horseshoe Drive area of the city, said Waterbury Police Lt. David Silverio.
Police determined that the razor blades came from the same home at 102 Horseshoe Drive and arrested the resident identified as Jason A Racz, 37, Silverio said.
Racz told police that the razor blades were accidentally spilled or put into the candy bowl he used to hand out candy from.
Police also a 3-year-old child living at the home had access to the box of razor blades.
During his arrest, Racz was being escorted from the Detective Bureau to the booking area he was physically non-compliant with the detectives and had to be restrained.
He was charged with risk of injury to a minor, reckless endangerment and interfering with a police officer.
Racz was being held on a $250,000 bond.
